Realto Price bought this property in 1870. He was the son of Clayton County’s first judge and was himself a local attorney, banker, City Council member and prominent citizen. Realto was considered responsible for bringing the railroad and the County Courthouse to Elkader. Many books from his private collection can be found in the Price Room at the Elkader Public Library.
This National Register sixteen-room home has a balanced exterior accentuated by the structural use of white brick at the corners and window arches.
