Recreational opportunities abound in Elkader and the surrounding area. The Turkey River is the centerpiece of Elkader's scenic beauty. It is also a wonderful recreational resource for residents and visitors. It offers great fishing, tubing, canoeing and kayaking.

Elkader has several city parks and an additional county park is located on the city limits. The parks have picnic shelters, a campground, walking trails, playgrounds, a swimming pool, river accesses, and much more.

Many other parks, boat accesses, preserves and wildlife areas are located within a short drive of Elkader.
