Northeast Iowa is an outdoorsman’s paradise! Fishing is only one of the many recreational opportunities available in the area.
The City of Elkader partners with the Turkey River Recreational Corridor to promote recreational opportunities in the area.
Smallmouth bass, catfish, redhorse, carp, sheepshead, northern pike and walleye and sauger can be taken from the Turkey River in downtown Elkader. Participate in Elkader’s annual Redhorse Fisheree sponsored by the Elkader Lion’s Club in May.
The trout angler will find Clayton County’s trout streams fun and challenging. Trout can also be taken from the Turkey River near the outlet of the Big Springs Trout Hatchery north of Elkader. Other fishing opportunities can be found in the nearby Volga, Yellow, Upper Iowa and Mississippi Rivers.
Visit the Iowa DNR web site for more information about fishing and fishing regulations.
