We are excited to announce that the City is the recipient of a Paint Iowa Beautiful grant for the “Riverside Wall Art Project.” This is an exceptional opportunity for artists to engage with the community.
The purpose of this grant is to facilitate the painting of the wall that separates the Riverside Park from the Turkey River, with contributions from local artists of all ages, beginning at five years old.
The theme of the wall will be related to but not limited to:
- Living in northeast Iowa
- Beautiful rural America
- River activities
The wall will be partitioned into eight sections, each measuring 20 feet in length and 32 inches in height. Each applicant will be assigned responsibility for one section. Paint is being supplied by PAINT IOWA BEAUTIFUL.
Elkader’s art culture has experienced notable growth since the installation of the original murals in 2019. Many of these artworks were created by local artists, including students. The primary objectives of this project are as follows:
- Enhance public awareness of art culture in downtown Elkader
- Encourage tourism by promoting/marketing exhibited murals.
- Foster community spirit through active community engagement
- Further beautify historic Elkader
Interested artists should complete this application form and return it to City Hall by June 25th.
Paper copies of the form are also available at City Hall.
Please note that, as this is a community project, there will be no financial compensation provided.
The project should be completed by September 30, 2026.
