OWLS: American Dream: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace
The Clayton County Conservation Board and the Older, Wiser, Livelier, Souls program has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit, to host a presentation called “American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace ” presented by Tom Milligan. This presentation will be held at the Osborne Conservation Center on Thursday, November 21st at 11:00 a.m. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.
This year’s O.W.L.S. theme is “NEIA Farm and Ag Tour”, and we decided to bring back Tom Milligan for the last O.W.L.S. event of this season. Tom does a wonderful job portraying historical figures from Iowa and last time he visited us we had a packed house. In this one act play based on the award-winning book of the same name by Senator John C. Culver and John Hyde, Tom portrays Henry A Wallace, innovator and founder of Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Corn Company, who became US Secretary of Agriculture, and later Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. Admired by many and later branded as a Socialist during his controversial 1948 campaign for the presidency, Wallace always held out a vision for the future.
Please reserve your spot today by calling (563) 245-1516 or visit the Osborne Nature Center. The presentation will be held at 11 a.m. at the Osborne Conservation Center on November 21st. Following the program will be a potluck lunch, so please bring a dish to pass.
