Main Street\, Elkader Iowa) the historic Keystone Bridge in downtown Elkader will be rededicated in honor of the 135th anniversary of the bridge. \nThe rededication ceremony will include a speech from Mayor Josh R. Pope and a speech from Brennan Dolan\, from the Iowa Department of Transportation. There will be coloring pages for children\, a “selfie” spot with the beautiful bridge as a backdrop\, recognition of donors and recognition of those involved in the project. Mayor Pope will unveil a new bronze plaque rededicating the bridge. The day will finish with a reception at The Collective at 129 N. Main Street featuring an exhibit of bridge related art work.

DESCRIPTION:Embrace your Irish spirit and join us on Sunday\, March 17th in downtown Elkader for a St. Patrick’s Day parade!  \nNo registration needed.\nLine-up at 2pm starting at Peace Church on N. Main Street in Elkader and go towards the school.\nFirst come\, first serve!\n(please note – the parade is on a Sunday this year) \n \n  \nRegarding parking: \n\nWe’re anticipating a large crowd and with that\, we need to make sure everyone celebrates safely.\n\n\nSpecial traffic/parking restrictions will begin at 12:00 noon on North and South Main Street. We will again be implementing a “soft closure” at that time to allow shoppers to finish up and without confusing everyone with a bunch of details\, we’ll try to make it as simple as we can:\n* If you see a barricade or cones in your lane of traffic\, that’s for you and you are restricted from entering that area. Please\, don’t go around them.\nAny new\, incoming traffic along the parade route will not be able to enter. (We’ve included parking options on this post for you to use.)\n\n\nAt 2:00 pm! – *ALL vehicles still parked on Main Street\, starting from Davis Street (Elementary side of school) all the way down to Founder’s Park (all of S. Main Street)\, must be moved by 2:00 pm!\n\n\nThe parade will include oversized equipment and we must have the route clear of all parking along the route. The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will kick-off at 5:30pm with the route stretching from Peace Church to Wilke’s.  Those interested in having an entry in the parade need to start lining-up by 5:00pm near Central Community School. No registration or fee is needed to enter the parade. Visit the Main Street Elkader Facebook page for complete parade details.  \nAfter the parade\, stop by your favorite local restaurant to enjoy multiple Irish based specials. Live music from Patsy & the Plum St. Jam will take place at Deb’s Brewtopia right after the parade. Also check out Joseph Valenti at TD’s Sports Bar from 6:00-9:00pm. Irish themed buffet items will be featured at Johnson’s Restaurant and Irish specials will be offered all day long at Fennellys’ Irish Pub. Check out any of your favorite local restaurants to find delicious eats!  \nBe sure to check out the stores in Downtown Elkader before the parade too! Pick up a lucky charm at Twisted Alley for up to 25% off your purchase. \nThe Friends of the Library are sponsoring Dinosaur Dimensions at the Central State Bank Community Room from 4:00-5:00pm. \n \nInformation on parking from Police Chief Seitz: \n“We wanted to remind everyone about the special parking restrictions for March 17th and provide some information to keep you in the loop.  \n\nOver the last few years\, we have restricted parking for this event after careful consideration. The lack of visibility in the downtown area caused by parked vehicles is just too great for a parade and is a very real safety concern. (We’re aware of too many “close calls” and we don’t like those)\n\n\nWhat you need to know: There’s a parade on March 17th and we need the streets cleared of all parked vehicles along the route\, because we don’t want anyone to get ran over.\n\n\nThe parade starts promptly at 5:30 pm on March 17th (Friday).\n\n\n– Special parking restrictions along the normal parade route begin at 3:00 pm. We will start by restricting all new incoming traffic from entering Main Street at that time and all vehicles still parked along the route should clear the area soon after. DESCRIPTION:Thanks to generous community donations\, grants from Aureon and ITC\, and partnerships with the City of Elkader and Mobile Track Solutions\,  Main Street Elkader has purchased patio lights to hang across Main Street. Join us as we turn the lights for the first time and “Light Up the Night” downtown on June 3rd. \nWe’ll have live music and yard games to enjoy. Stop by a local restaurant to grab a meal or drink to go and bring it to North Main Street for the festivities. There will be picnic tables but you are welcome and encouraged to bring lawn chairs. \nThis event takes place on First Friday – a new initiative downtown encouraging businesses to extend their hours the first Friday of the month. Before stopping down for the lights\, stop by a local shop and support our local businesses! \nShopping and dining is available throughout the day and evening. Music and games will begin at 6pm and the lights will officially turn on around 8:15 pm. Join us as we celebrate “Lighting Up the Night!”

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special holiday fundraiser as we team up with Main Street Elkader investor\, Turkey River Greenhouse (you may know them as Pete & Natasha from Turkey River Farms) to create cute\, festive holiday planters! The cost to register is $35 and the workshop is limited to 15 people.\n\nNatasha will lead us in a full demonstration and explanation of the tools/supplies need to make a homemade evergreen planter; instructions for the handmade bow\, and instructions to provide care for finished arrangements.\n\n\nParticipants will need to bring gardening gloves and pruners. Turkey River Greenhouse will provide assorted evergreen boughs\, branches\, pinecones\, holiday ribbon\, glitter curlicues\, 10” planter drop-ins filled with sand.
