DESCRIPTION:CONTEST PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR Heritage Days \n  \nOsborne is seeking entries for a variety of contests during this year’s Annual Osborne Heritage Days celebration.  So come out to show your skill\, creativity\, and spirit.  Heritage Days will be held on Saturday and Sunday\, October 14th and 15th\, from 10:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. each day.  Events are held in the Pioneer Village of the Osborne Center\, located 5 miles south of Elkader on Highway 13. \n  \nKADR-KCTN Pumpkin Contests \nKADR-KCTN Radio\, Elkader\, will be sponsoring two pumpkin contests and the Iowa Championship Buffalo Chip Throw on Sunday\, October 15th at Heritage Days.  The “Carved or Decorated Pumpkin Contest” includes cash prizes for first through third places in two age divisions:  12 years and under\, and 13 years and over.  The “Great Pumpkin Contest” is a search for the largest pumpkin grown in the area.  They are judged by the total weight plus circumference.  This contest is divided into two age divisions as well\, and cash prizes will be awarded in each division.  The record for the largest pumpkin at Heritage Days is 1\,056 pounds!  All entries should be brought to Osborne Park on Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  Judging will take place at 1:00 p.m.\, winners will be announced by 2:00 p.m. \n  \nThe Iowa Championship Buffalo Chip Throw  \nThe Buffalo Chip Throw will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday. SUMMARY:Osborne Heritage Days
DESCRIPTION:48th ANNUAL OSBORNE HERITAGE DAYS  \nOCTOBER 14 & 15 \n  \nClayton County Conservation’s 48th Annual Osborne Heritage Days will be held on Saturday and Sunday\, October 14th and 15th\, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.  Travel back in time to experience some of the sights\, sounds\, smells and activities of early pioneers during this family fun event. This month’s program is “A Mississippi River Adventure on the Maiden Voyage” \nJoin the O.W.L.S. as we charter the Maiden Voyage for a fun afternoon on the Mississippi. Captain Robert Varva does an excellent job as skipper\, storyteller\, and adventure leader. Participants will learn about commercial fishing\, clamming\, early explorers while viewing wildlife up close and personal. The tour will start with an amazing Mississippi fish fry on the dock before departing on the voyage. \n  \nParticipants may wish to bring: \nSunglasses or hat \nSunscreen (boat has a canopy)\, \nBug spray \nComfortable river shoes \nWater bottle \n  \nThis all-afternoon trip will leave from Osborne Park at 11:15 a.m. and the shuttle will return to Osborne around 4:30 p.m. Reservations are required at 245-1516 so call early to ensure a spot. \n  \nOsborne Nature Center is located on HWY 13 five miles south of Elkader. DESCRIPTION:DayCampBrochure2023               Junior Naturalist Camp Flyer 2023 (1)      \n  \nClayton County Conservation Summer Camps \nClayton County Conservation presents the 2023 summer camp schedule. \nJunior Naturalist Program (JNP) camps are offered only to 6th-10th grade students. The JNP is an overnight camp program that focuses on exploring nature and the environment.  Activities are led by naturalists at the Osborne Center\, local resource specialists and sportsmen. 2023 JNP camps will be held June 20-21\, June 27-28\, and July 11-13. \nSummer Youth Day Camps are full-day outdoor programs from 9am-2pm for children ages 6-12. Each camp will focus on a different theme\, but all campers will get a chance to search for wildlife\, make crafts\, go on hikes\, and hone their nature awareness skills while exploring the parks of Clayton County. 2023 Youth Day Camps will be held on June 1\, 8\, & 15th as well as July 6 and 27th. \nMotor Mill S.T.E.A.M. camps are a fun filled day exploring historic Motor Mill as we discover the connections between science\, technology\, engineering\, mathematics\, and art with nature.
