SUMMARY:OWLS: American Dream: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace
DESCRIPTION:The Clayton County Conservation Board and the Older\, Wiser\, Livelier\, Souls program has received funding from Humanities Iowa\, a private\, non-profit\, to host a presentation called “American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace ” presented by Tom Milligan. This presentation will be held at the Osborne Conservation Center on Thursday\, November 21st at 11:00 a.m. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971\, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities. \nThis year’s O.W.L.S. theme is “NEIA Farm and Ag Tour”\, and we decided to bring back Tom Milligan for the last O.W.L.S. event of this season. Tom does a wonderful job portraying historical figures from Iowa and last time he visited us we had a packed house. In this one act play based on the award-winning book of the same name by Senator John C. Culver and John Hyde\, Tom portrays Henry A Wallace\, innovator and founder of Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Corn Company\, who became US Secretary of Agriculture\, and later Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. Admired by many and later branded as a Socialist during his controversial 1948 campaign for the presidency\, Wallace always held out a vision for the future. \nPlease reserve your spot today by calling (563) 245-1516 or visit the Osborne Nature Center.  The presentation will be held at 11 a.m. at the Osborne Conservation Center on November 21st. Following the program will be a potluck lunch\, so please bring a dish to pass.

SUMMARY:“Savanna Saunter”
DESCRIPTION:“Savanna Saunter” \n5:00 PM \nFriday\, May 17th \nBloody Run County Park \nJoin naturalist & natural resource manager Kenny Slocum for a guided hike through one of Clayton County Conservation’s highest quality natural areas at Bloody Run County Park. The restored oak savannas\, oak-hickory woodland\, and goat prairies have been a major focus of the CCCB’s restoration efforts\, showcased by the rugged 1.3 mile Well’s Hollow Trail. \nEarly summer sees this jewel at its most splendid\, with excellent opportunities to view wildflowers in bloom\, neotropical birds\, abundant pollinators\, and unique reptiles if the sun is shining. \nParticipants should come prepared for the primitive trail with steep sections\, rough footing\, and possible off-trail ventures to interesting points. Sturdy shoes\, long pants\, and water are recommended. \nMeet at the loop at the far end of the campground\, near site #20. Bloody Run County Park is located one mile west of Marquette\, Iowa.
