DESCRIPTION:Pick Your Own Prairie Seed\nWednesday\, September 3rd (6:30 PM – 8:00 PM) \nOsborne Pond \n  \nIt’s a garden start-y seed-pickin’ party! Landscaping with native plants can be one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to help support local ecosystems. In this event hosted by Clayton County Conservation and the Iowa Prairie Network\, participants will have the chance to identify and collect native prairie plants for their home gardens\, and learn about how to propagate them for success. \nThis event is free and welcomes all ages. Bags for seed will be provided. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants\, close-toed shoes\, and be ready to wade into tall grass. Bug spray and water recommended. \nThe group will meet at the large shelter near the Osborne Pond at 6:30 PM to talk plant propagation before hiking into the field to identify and collect seed. \n  \nThe Osborne Pond is located approximately 5 miles south of Elkader on Highway 13. September’s destination will be a visit to Cedar Rock by Frank Lloyd Wright in Quasqueton\, Iowa. Please meet at Osborne Park at 9:00 to carpool to our destination on September 25th. *Please note date change\, this trip is one week later than our usual Thursday. \nThis O.W.L.S. adventure will take you to Quasqueton to tour Cedar Rock\, The Walter House\, built by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Cedar Rock was built in Wright’s Usonian Style characterized by living simply and in harmony with nature and is one of his best examples of this style of architecture. \nJoin us each month\, March through November\, for O.W.L.S.\, Older Wiser Livelier Souls. Each month will feature a new Silos and Smokestacks Site\, so join us as we explore more of the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area. \nReservations are required.
