SUMMARY:Osborne Campground Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join Clayton County Conservation for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Osborne Campground! The newly constructed campground is located south of the animal exhibit at Osborne Park. After the ribbon cutting we will provide hotdogs\, smores\, and beverages for you to enjoy next to a campfire! \nPreliminary earth work for the project began in November of 2023. Electric\, water\, and septic were installed in 2024. A shower/restroom facility was installed in the summer of 2024. Final grading & seeding on the project site was wrapped up by fall of 2024. \nThe new campground has 20 campsites with electric\, water\, fire pits and picnic tables. There are also 7 tent sites. The location of the new campground provides easy access to hiking trails\, the Volga River\, and of course the Osborne Nature Center and Outdoor Wildlife Exhibit. \nOsborne Nature Center & campground is located at 29862 Osborne Rd. DESCRIPTION:Older\, Wiser\, Livelier\, Souls \nSilos and Smokestacks Grand Tour–Riegel Blacksmith Shop and Historic Clermont  \nFriday\, May 30th \nReservations Required \n  \nJoin Older\, Wiser\, Livelier\, Souls for the 2025 grand tour of the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area. May’s destination will be a visit to the Riegel Blacksmith Shop and Historic Clermont\, Iowa. Please meet at Osborne Park at 10:00 to carpool to our destination. \nThis O.W.L.S. adventure will be later in the month than usual on Friday May 30th.  Join us then as Clermont’s Historical Society takes us through downtown Clermont to see the Larrabee Building\, Depot\, and Riegel Blacksmith Shop. Normally you can join us the 3rd Thursday of each month\, March through November\, for O.W.L.S.\, Older Wiser Livelier Souls. Each month will feature a new Silos and Smokestacks Site\, so join us as we explore the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area. \nReservations are required. DESCRIPTION:Bloody Run Burn Walk\nFriday\, May 30th (6:30 PM – 8:00 PM) \nBloody Run County Park \nCome and join the Clayton County Conservation Board for a guided hike exploring the effects of prescribed burning at Bloody Run County Park. Along the way we will discuss the timing\, conditions\, and frequency of fire at two different restoration sites and how the plant and animal communities have responded. \nThis hike will be great for landowners interested in prescribed burning\, and nature enthusiasts interested in seeing unique flora and fauna in one of Clayton County’s finest natural areas. \nParticipants should come prepared for a fairly rugged hike including off-trail terrain; pants\, sturdy shoes\, water\, bug repellent\, and sunscreen recommended.\nBloody Run County Park is located approximately one mile west of Marquette\, Iowa.
