DESCRIPTION:“Prairies & Fireflies” \n7:30-9:30 PM \nWednesday\, July 10th  \nMotor Mill Historic Site \nCome and explore the magic of a midsummer night on the prairie with a hike up to a beautiful prairie planting at the Motor Mill Historic Site. After exploring the flowers\, insects\, and wildlife flourishing at dusk\, we’ll sit back and enjoy the firefly display glowing in the valley as evening sets in. \nParticipants should come prepared for an easy hike of just over a mile\, with possible excursions into taller vegetation. Long pants and bug spray recommended. Participants are also invited to bring a camping chair to relax and watch the fireflies. \nMeet at the Motor Mill Campground. This event is free and welcomes all ages\, but a sign up is requested to have a contact in the event of inclement weather. DESCRIPTION:Older\, Wiser\, Livelier\, Souls \nSecrest 1883 Octagonal Barn  \nThursday\, July 18th \nReservations Required \nThe Clayton County Conservation Board and the Older\, Wiser\, Livelier\, Souls program has received funding from Humanities Iowa\, a private\, non-profit\, to host a presentation called “If Barns Could Talk” presented by Rich Tyler at the Secrest Barn near West Liberty\, Iowa\, July 18th. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971\, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and Historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities. \nThis year’s O.W.L.S. theme is “NEIA Farm and Ag Tour”\, and July’s program is a visit to West Liberty\, Iowa to see the Secrest 1883 Octagonal Barn and learn about Rich Tyler’s passionate journey to restore the amazing barn. Please meet at Osborne Park at 9:00 a.m. to carpool to our destination for the barn tour and presentation at 11:00 a.m. Please pack a lunch for a picnic at the site and join us for this fun day at the barn. \nReserve your spot today by calling (563) 245-1516 or visit the Osborne Nature Center.  Osborne Nature Center is located on HWY 13 five miles south of Elkader.
