DESCRIPTION:PONY HOLLOW TRAIL BRANDING CONTEST \nCALLING ALL TRAIL ENTHUSIASTS \nThe Clayton County Conservation Board is hosting a logo design contest for the Pony Hollow Trail. Participants must submit entries before Friday\, May 31 at 5:00pm to be included in the fundraising competition. Contest information and a link to the submission form can be found on the NEWS section of www.claytoncountyconservation.org \nThe public will help vote for their favorite design at a National Trails Day event on Saturday\, June 1\, 2024 along Pony Hollow Trail.  The lucky winner with receive a 2-night stay at the Inn at Motor Mill. \nParticipants are encouraged to consider the rich history of Pony Hollow’s railbed\, the name of the trail\, and the multi-use purpose of the trail in their design. Participants agree that Clayton County Conservation has the right to reproduce the design for marketing\, branding\, promotional\, and sales items. DESCRIPTION:“Savanna Saunter” \n5:00 PM \nFriday\, May 17th \nBloody Run County Park \nJoin naturalist & natural resource manager Kenny Slocum for a guided hike through one of Clayton County Conservation’s highest quality natural areas at Bloody Run County Park. The restored oak savannas\, oak-hickory woodland\, and goat prairies have been a major focus of the CCCB’s restoration efforts\, showcased by the rugged 1.3 mile Well’s Hollow Trail. \nEarly summer sees this jewel at its most splendid\, with excellent opportunities to view wildflowers in bloom\, neotropical birds\, abundant pollinators\, and unique reptiles if the sun is shining. \nParticipants should come prepared for the primitive trail with steep sections\, rough footing\, and possible off-trail ventures to interesting points. Sturdy shoes\, long pants\, and water are recommended. \nMeet at the loop at the far end of the campground\, near site #20. Bloody Run County Park is located one mile west of Marquette\, Iowa. This year’s theme is “NEIA Farm and Ag Tour”\, and May’s program will be a tour of the Norman Borlaug Boyhood Farm near Cresco\, Iowa. Please meet at Osborne Park at 9:15 to carpool to our destination. \nJoin us to learn how Dr. Norman E Borlaug became known as the Father of the Green Revolution. Tour the site where the seeds of inspiration began for young Norman which shaped his scientific and humanitarian work that earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970. The farm is a Silos and Smokestacks NHS and includes a schoolhouse\, home\, farm buildings and fields. Reservations are required.
