Jay is Chief Explorer on The Iowa Gallivant\, Host and Voice of Iowa Irish in Downtown-Waterloo\, regular contributor for Little Village Magazine Bread and Butter Magazine\, KXEL Radio\, and constant promoter of communities all over the map. \nIn Rural Iowa Sausage Jay recants the history of the famous lockers\, famous products\, and dedicated Iowa customers. Including history and information on some of the past and present northeast Iowa meat lockers and some of their special offerings. DESCRIPTION:Owl Prowl Poster 2024 \nOwl Prowl \nFriday\, February 16th\, 5:30pm \nOsborne Nature Center \n Come out to Osborne Park on Friday\, February 16th at 5:30pm to learn about these secretive nocturnal animals.  Visitors will learn about all the things that make owls so amazing before heading out to the forest to look and listen along Osborne’s trails while we try to call owls in. This fun night hike will last about an hour and a half.  Remember to bring a flashlight and dress for the weather!    \nThe Osborne Center is located on Highway 13\, ten miles north of Strawberry Point or five miles south of Elkader.  The center is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm\, Monday-Friday. DESCRIPTION:Tree and plant ID \nWinter Tree & Plant ID Walk \nMotor Mill Historic Site \nSaturday\, February 17th\, 2024 \n1:00 PM \nEveryone knows a maple leaf\, but how can you tell what’s growing in the forest after the leaves drop? Come on out to the Motor Mill Historic Site and de-mystify Iowa’s native plants in their winter form! \nThis hike will focus on the identifying characteristics of trees and plants and how they inform the decision making process for land stewardship and winter conservation work. \nIowa DNR district forester Dave Asche and CCCB naturalist Kenny Slocum will lead the hike of approximately 1 mile. Meet at the Motor Mill Campground\, just east of the mill. Participants are advised to dress for the weather and walking on rough terrain with occasional steep spots\, and bring drinking water if necessary. \nThe Motor Mill Historic Site is located at 28518 Galaxy Road\, Elkader\, Iowa.
