"My sister Donna and I were invited to Elkader by my father John Virgil (7/6/1901)Schneider's cousin Paul Schneider from Garnavillo. The occasion was the centennial of St. Joseph Church. Our grandfather and his brother were instrumental in the construction. We stayed at a B&B in town. We were warmly received and met relatives we had heard about as children. One cousin, Hugh Peake, remembered our father. He was only eight years old when Daddy left Elkader at the age of seventeen for the East Coast. He married Rose Adams of New Freedom, PA. We enjoyed meeting cousins Fleet and Bobby. Elkader is charming. We had a wonderful time. It will be cherished forever. Elkader is charming and friendly."

"It has been a few years since our last trip to Elkader. Walking along the Turkey River, over the Keystone Bridge, through the downtown and neighborhoods, you can't help but feel the town has the "welcome" mat out for all who visit. We can't wait to come back!"

Thanks so much for the beautiful day you set up for area Red Hat Ladies on Friday, Sept. 30th: Gift baskets with 20% off coupons, the 3:00 tea & tour of the Carter House Museum. We didn't have time to tour the Opera House but plan to sometime in the future. Everyone was so hospitable & a special thanks to Mary Harstad [Chamber Administrative Assistant] & all who helped make this day so nice. Elkader is a lovely town & we hope to visit again. Many Thanks!!"

"I just want to thank you for being so welcoming to geocachers this past weekend. We had our biggest turnout ever at 189 attendees. This was the first year that we incorporated tours and side events, like the Motor Mill tour, and renting the theater. Those side events were a HUGE success, and geocachers really liked seeing the history of the area! We were also impressed with all the businesses that had signs welcoming us! I have received e-mails from fellow cachers that plan a return trip in the next few weeks to find caches and enjoy the fall foliage. :) On behalf of the IowaGeocachers.Org- THANK YOU ELKADER!"

"Our Book Club had such a wonderful time in Elkader. We never imagined we could pack so much into 2 days -- or that there would be so much to do in your "little" town. You gave us wonderful ideas and I think we did them all (well, we missed a few of the restaurants). Gratefully,
- Linda and bookclub members from Bettendorf, IA
"Listened to a heart warming story about your town and people on
our National Radio - CBC. Prince Edward Island is a long way from Elkader,
but I think it may be worth the trip. Hope to visit you someday . . ."

"My wife and I spent July 7th thru July 9th riding our motorcycles in northeast Iowa. We stopped at the court house in Elkader to replace our
State of Iowa DOT map and were meet with very helpful and cheerful people. Growing up in central Iowa; northeast Iowa is our favorite place to go for motorcycling, trout fishing and just a pleasant place to visit. We will continue to spend time in your area whenever possible."
